COMMENTARY
Lexington, Ky. 3/30/21
On Thursday night’s 11 p.m., broadcast, WLEX-TV News Readers, Mr. Larry Smith, Ms. Angie Beavin, and Reporter Ms. Claire Kopsky, reported on “the company” that is selling Covid destroying fans.
Although nobody ever said “Big Ass Fans” in the WLEX-TV audio, everyone in Central Kentucky recognized the iconic product with blades and the video did show the logo on the fan.
The “company’s” name also did appear in the transcript below the podcast video.
Years ago, former Gov. Steve Beshear described the fans as “… look like helicopter blades.” I covered the story and hereby AFFIRM that the [now] former Governor said “Big Ass Fans!” If I recall correctly, he said he’s a big ass fan of Big Ass Fans.
Ms. Beavin and Ms. Kopsky, have been here long enough to know it is okay to actually say “Big Ass Fans” out loud on the air. None of those words violate any FCC rule.
Welcome to the Bluegrass Mr. Smith, where we say what we mean and it’s okay to use common words we all say in the car, at home; and yes, even in church.
We are all BIG blue FANS.
Messiah rode down the mountain into Jerusalem on an ASS.
Got it? We love you and want you to know we accept you as one of our own, BUT:
Oh there’s that grammatical posterior or ass conjunctive again.
Please, don’t HEE HAW around the donkey company’s name.
“The company” as your news writer called it, is Big Ass Fans, a BIG ASS winner in Kentucky’s economy with scores of patents that help make the Bluegrass one of the most creative regions in the world; and, a BIG ASS EMPLOYER here, too.
WLEX-TV’s Orwellian cancel culture and doublespeak precedes Mr. Smith’s arrival as a news reader. The others probably watched it develop over the years.
However, it is very disturbing that WLEX-TV management has a policy of such HEAVY ASS CENSORSHIP.
That’s the same hypocritical management mentality that fired former employee Lee Cruse over a misunderstanding so trivial we can’t recall the specifics exactly.
Everyone I know thought WLEX-TV management really wanted to fire Mr. Cruse because he was the most outspoken conservative you ever had in any program.
My consolations to you all; this story is more a slap against WLEX-TV management’s hypocrisy and less about the news readers and reporter who got their figurative and collective TIT CAUGHT IN A BIG ASS FAN story.
It’s ashamed that the area’s most exciting news presentation for well over the last decade has such a phobia about free speech, turning WLEX-TV management into … a BIG ASS.
Did I tell you I absolutely love donkeys? Yes I did.
The Journal Kentucky uses the European term “news reader” instead of “anchor” because if we called you an “anchor” it would it would imply you are in chains. THAT’S WLEX-TV’s kind of illogic in suppressing the name of a great company.
Most Kentuckians and Americans are fed up with cancel culture and suppression of free speech.
The proof? WVLK-AM’s hot conservative free speech talk shows take top ratings: Chris Plante, Mark Levin, and Red Eye Radio. WLAP-FM’s conservative talk shows do as well: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Clyde Lewis (yes he covers kooky stories too; but, he’s politically conservative and believes in free speech).
Relax a little WLEX-TV Management: it is okay to say “Big Ass Fans” on the air. BUT thanks for bringing another news reader here who has Hollywood good looks – Mr. Larry Smith.
