Derek Chauvin Sentenced to 22.5 Years

Second Degree Unintentional Murder Conviction in Death of George Floyd

6/25/21 – Former police officer Derek Chauvin got a 22.5 year prison sentence for the Second Degree Unintentional Murder of George Floyd in the case called Minnesota v. Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin must also register as a “predatory offender,” cannot possess firearms for the rest of his life; and, must pay a$78 fee from prison wages.

CourtTV aired the poignant pleas of George Floyd’s family and attorney for “maximum accountability for George Floyd!”

The family recounted loss of George’s loving influence on his friends and family.

Attorneys reminded the crowd that federal charges are still pending; and, Al Sharpton demanded that if convicted, that sentence could run consecutive to the state time, meaning the sentence would start after the state time ended, thus keeping the prisoner for additional time.

The family thought the sentence is too short and concluded that the fight for justice is ongoing.
