Sen. Rand Paul Questioned Moderna CEO on COVID-19 Vaccines and Myocarditis
Last week, at a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee hearing, Sen. Paul questioned the CEO of Moderna, Stéphane Bancel on COVID-19 vaccines and myocarditis in young men.
In the hearing, Sen. Paul asked Bancel if there is a higher risk of myocarditis, which causes inflammation in the heart muscle, in males 16 to 24 years old after taking the COVID-19 vaccine. Bancel answered that the data he has been given shows a decrease.
However, Sen. Paul recalled a conversation between the President of Moderna and me in which he said that there WAS an increased risk of myocarditis in males 16 to 24 years old after taking the vaccine. Along with this admission, in private by Moderna leadership, Sen. Paul also presented six peer reviewed medical papers that say the complete opposite of what Bancel told the committee.
The fact that Moderna can’t admit to this concerning rise of myocarditis in public is troubling. But even more alarming is mandating or recommending three or four vaccines for this group.
Parents should have all the information. The American people are smart enough to make decisions on their own. And drug companies shouldn’t collaborate with government agencies to force a vaccine at the benefit of their company making money.
Sen. Rand Paul Questions Sec. of State Blinken on Government Funded Gain-of-Function Research and Overclassification of COVID-19 Documents
Recently, Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where Sen. Paul was able to question him on government funded, risky and virus enhancing, gain-of-function research and overclassification of documents relating to COVID-19 origins.
As Sen. Paul said in the hearing, the American people need to know what the State Department is funding. Sen. Paul has sent the State Department two oversight letters requesting relevant documents, and Secretary Blinken’s agency sent him two form letters that prevent information from being shared by hiding behind bureaucratic rules.
The reason why it is so important to confirm the origins of COVID-19 is to prevent another pandemic and save countless lives. But, to achieve that goal, Congress needs information, information that the State Department has in its possession and refuses to share with Congress.
Secretary of State Blinken was less than forthcoming during his Senate testimony, but that won’t stop me from asking for information about a pandemic that killed over a million Americans and resulted in lockdowns, mandates, and unprecedented levels of spending. Sen. Paul would think that this Administration, which purports to care so much about ending COVID, would embrace, not ignore, Sen. Paul’s efforts to prevent a future pandemic.
Sen. Rand Paul Continues Efforts to Return War Powers to Congress,
Forced Senate Vote on Amendment to Repeal 2001 AUMF
Also last week, Sen. Paul continued his longtime efforts to return war making powers to Congress by introducing an amendment and forcing a vote in the Senate to repeal the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF).
Paul’s amendment offered the U.S. Senate a chance to repeal the 9/11/2001 Authorization for War to reclaim our constitutional power and send a message to the world that we are a nation of peace. But, if provoked to war, the gentle giant that is America will respond lawfully according to the Constitution, when war is absolutely necessary. America will obey the Constitution which requires us to debate and vote upon war and not hide beneath another generation’s deliberations.
The Senate should have risen above symbolism and repealed the 911 authorization for war and shown respect for the Constitution, fealty to the rule of law, and sincere desire that peace, not perpetual war, be our legacy.
War is sometimes necessary, but going to war should not be the decision of one person. Ending congressional authorization for the Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars will return full war power to the American people and their representatives.
Sen. Rand Paul Introduced NIH Reform Act
Recently, Sen. Paul introduced the NIH Reform Act to eliminate Sen. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and replace it with three separate national research institutes that would be led by directors subject to Senate confirmation and limited to no more than two 5-year terms.
We’ve learned a lot over the past few years, but one lesson in particular is that no one person should be deemed “dictator-in-chief.” No one person should have unilateral authority to make decisions for millions of Americans.
To ensure that ineffective, unscientific lockdowns and mandates are never foisted on the American people ever again, Sen. Paul ’ve introduced this bill to eliminate Sen. Anthony Fauci’s previous position as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and divide the role into three separate new institutes. This will create accountability and oversight into a taxpayer funded position that has largely abused its power and has been responsible for many failures and misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sen. Rand Paul Reintroduces Bonuses for Cost-Cutters Act
Recently, in an effort to continue reining in wasteful spending and reform government, Sen. Paul introduced his Bonuses for Cost-Cutters Act.
Currently, federal law allows an agency’s Inspector General to pay bonuses of up to $10,000 of savings realized when a federal employee identifies waste, fraud, or mismanagement of funds. Sen. Paul’s legislation would expand these categories to include identifying surplus or unneeded funds.
Successfully tackling our debt crisis requires vigilance at all levels of government, from lawmakers in Congress to the employees on the front lines that carry out the day-to-day spending.
The pressure in Washington to spend all you can before the end of the fiscal year so you can get even more in the future is enormous. Bonuses for Cost-Cutters pushes back against this status quo, providing additional incentive to save taxpayer resources.
