5/17/24, Nicholasville, Ky.
One of Kentucky’s many annual Memorial Day ceremonies is in Nicholasville, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
An incredible 17,000 miniature American flags will be placed by volunteers, one flag on each grave for the ceremonies.
See the sponsor’s Facebook page for updates and details.
Portions of the Cemetery Will Be Closed During the Ceremony
Appearing on WVLK-AM 590’s Jack Patty Radio Show (5/17/24, 9 am hour) one organizer suggested for veteran families who merely wish to visit a particular gravesite to do so outside the organized activity hours to avoid delays and impediments due to graveyard road closures required to accommodate the ceremony.
Difference Between Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day
Memorial Day, each May, honors veterans fallen in the line of duty; Veterans’ Day, in the autumn, honors all veterans both living and deceased.
Kentucky’s Hoptown Music label had over a million views of the original composition honoring Veterans (Allied Memorial Hymn) when it aired on Skybridge Press WSKY-TV youtube channel.
Carson Borgheses’ post at Skybridge referred to the hymn as perhaps the most consequential since the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
