COMMENTARY from TALK SOUP

The recent slow or insufficient FEMA response to Hurricane Helene for five days or more proves again that in a national emergency, FEMA cannot respond to most people’s needs in any kind of crisis.

Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida as a Category 4 hurricane on 9/26/24.

Helene caused significant life and property losses in the states she passed through including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama.

North Carolina residents accuse DHS of not just ignoring them; but, of actively obstructing private relief efforts. If true, this is a crime against humanity.

Hurricane Milton hit land as a Category 3 hurricane on the central Gulf coast of Florida late on 10/09/24.

Milton swept across Florida, affecting several states along its path, including:

  • Florida, causing significant damage, mostly in the Tampa Bay area, exacerbating Helene’s damage on 9/26/24.
  • Georgia, causing heavy rain and strong wind.
  • South Carolina, causing flooding and power outages.

FEMA has been criticized as feckless because the massive damage in North Carolina allegedly went completely un-addressed for many days.

US Dept. Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Myorkas admitted his department spent much of its budget relocating and supporting illegal migrants (who were granted Special Immigration Visa [SIV] allegedly for the purpose of election interference) so Big Brother does not have the money nor resources to help real citizens.

Myorkas used the crises to beg more money from Congress despite prior DHS gross failures.

However, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the House recently provided an additional $20 billion to DHS and that “they have plenty of money with early release which they have not used.” (Clay and Buck, 10/11/24, first hour).

Private Relief Effort Exceeds FEMA’s

The immediate rescue of thousands of North Carolinians came from many private sector benefactors like conservative pundit Glen Beck’s nonprofit called MercuryOne.org.

Many victims and conservative talk show hosts allege that FEMA actively obstructed private rescue efforts by refusing private relief helicopters fly zones and landings to deliver supplies (food, water, medicine).

FEMA denies the allegations; but, the available facts and witness statements support the allegations, including the admission of DHS Sec. Myorkas.

Pundit, Clay Travis, broadcasting from North Carolina after his airborne tour of the destruction, said “… it’s gonna be a long hard winter, there’s still much more work that needs to be done here…” .

Clay’s sidekick, Buck, said “rednecks with chainsaws did much more than FEMA.”

Clay, visiting NC, said “I saw massive amounts of destruction and I didn’t see that much government aid.” (10/11/24, 12:14 p.m.)

“It’s not gonna be the federal government that fixes this; it’s gonna be a lot of rednecks with chainsaws,” observed Clay Travis. (10/11/24, 12:17 p.m.)
