“Corrupt Bargain” Scandal with President Adams

Washington, D.C., 2/20/25 News Feature COMMENTARY Citing articles of the official Historian of the U.S. Congress (with links).

Soon retiring Sen. “Beijing” Mitch McConnell (RINO, Ky) boasted a comparison of himself and historical Sen. Henry Clay.

“Beijing” Mitch is probably unaware (ignorant really, like many of his Kentucky acolytes) of the fact that Henry Clay was notorious in his era and was investigated for scandals involving his official positions as both Senator and Secretary of State.

1824: “Corrupt Bargain” Scandal in ‘Stolen’ Presidential Election*

“Beijing” Mitch McConnell is illiterate about history because he thinks it good to compare himself to corrupt Sen. Henry Clay, who exploited his position to become Sec. of State in the “Corrupt Bargain” scandal in the 1824 presidential election. While a senator, Clay was arrested along with Sen. William King who challenged Clay to a duel after Clay falsely accused King of slander. The Senate Sargeant-at-Arms arrested both and Clay bonded out for $5,000 according to the official U.S. Congressional Historian. Copyright © 2025 JournalKentucky.com All rights reserved. While serving as Secretary of State under President John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay was investigated by a Senate committee over allegations related to the so-called “Corrupt Bargain” scandal of the 1824 presidential election.

Critics, particularly supporters of Andrew Jackson, accused Clay of securing the presidency for Adams in exchange for being appointed as Secretary of State. This controversy led to a Senate investigation, though no formal charges were brought against him.

1841: Senators Clay and King Arrested by Sargeant-at-Arms, U.S. Senate**

Henry Clay, a prominent U.S. senator and statesman, was involved in a notable incident in 1841.

Clay was under investigation and faced a potential duel with Senator William King of Alabama.

The conflict arose from a heated exchange on the Senate floor regarding the selection of a Senate printer [print shop].

Clay accused King of slander, and King responded by challenging Clay to a duel.

Both senators were arrested and turned over to a local court, but Clay eventually apologized to avoid the duel.

Clay was a Slave Owner

Henry Clay’s legacy also includes owning slaves and fathering children with them. Some black families in Fayette County, Ky., trace their lineage to Clay.

Comparing Sen. “Beijing” Mitch McConnell with Sen. Henry Clay

1. Like Clay, “Beijing” Mitch tried to steal many elections from conservatives according to Mark Levin’s observation that he withheld campaign donations from conservatives in Republican primaries, rather preferring to direct Senate Republic Party PAC money to RINOs who mostly lost.

2. Like Clay, “Beijing” Mitch allegedly entangled himself in many more serious felonies than Clay ever did. Those alleged crimes are fully documented in Peter Schweitzer’s books, “Secret Empires” and “Blood Money.”

3. Like Clay, “Beijing” Mitch McConnell has done nothing to help free the Chinese native Uyghurs (wee-gurs) who are modern-day slaves in China, nor to stop general civil rights abuses of the Chinese population at large. At least Clay freed seven of his slaves, but not all.

“Beijing” Mitch McConnell makes the misconduct of his hero, Sen. Henry Clay, look like school-yard mischief compared to the alleged Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (RICO) crimes Beijing Mitch is accused of as documented by investigative author, Peter Schweitzer.

“Beijing” Mitch McConnell should have been arrested but was not; Clay was arrested and posted $5,000 bond along with Sen. King, supra.
