Junior Alvarado rode Sovereignty to victory in the 2025 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, his first win in the Run for the Roses, with 5:1 odds. Scroll down for video of the press event.

By the time Sovereignty reached the finish line, both jockey and horse were covered in Churchill Downs mud from a swampy-wet track after a steady rain all day long until just before the race began.

Horses left 6-8 inch craters where their hooves pounded a mushy swampy wet track after about one-inch of rainfall steady up until it stopped nearing start time.
