Mint Juleps are Wonderfully Tasty, Opponents May Need Taste-Bud Transplants or New Recipe

The best mint julep recipe is from gourmet chef Lynn Rosetta Casper’s Splendid Table show. Enjoy.

Splendid Table’s (ST) recipe recommends Woodford Reserve bourbon (2 oz / glass), a sponsor of the derby.

ST doesn’t mention it in this article, but you can substitute the sugar with Stevia (no-calorie) natural product either powder (most brands call for a volume equal to sugar volume) or liquid (Sage Editor recommends 1 teaspoon or less per drink [consider letting your guests decide drop-by-drop]).

Lynn Rosetta Casper has (or had) friends in Kentucky and in a show decades or so ago, she recommended Critchfield Meats as one of the best sources of tasty food.

COMMENTARY: Many Journalists Got it Wrong

Some journalists, instead of doing research, go by word-of-mouth, calling the derby everything except “the fastest two-minutes in sports,” which is the iconic euphemism coined decades ago by sports journalists to describe the Run for the Roses.

Churchill Downs has allegedly trademarked a similar phrase which we will not report but can be seen on the official website. It appears to be a spin-off from the original public domain phrase coined by sports reporters “the fastest two minutes in sports.” But, this is COMMENTARY based on Sage Editor’s memory; and, is subject to correction.

Try to avoid a hangover. Stay hydrated, drink in moderation, and don’t drink and drive.
